Donald J. Binotto, Operating Partner - Food & Beverage
Mr. Binotto is a 30 year veteran of the Seafood/Consumer Food Industry. Mr. Binotto is currently CEO of two Tri Marine Group companies - The Tuna Store and Samoa Tuna Processors. Samoa Tuna Processors is a state-of-the-art processing facility in American Samoa that produces shelf-stable and frozen products that are marketed and sold to the U.S. through the Tuna Store.  Mr. Binotto served as President of Del Monte’s Star-Kist Seafood, Soup and Baby Food Divisions ($1.1B) for 5 years.  He returned as President and CEO of Star-Kist for 2 years under Dong Wons ownership and improved operating profitability from -$15M to $70M in year one and exceeded that goal year 2.  He also served as COO for Star-Kist which encompassed a $1.5B supply chain for the Seafood and Pet food  Divisions (procurement, logistics, & operations). A restructuring plan he put in place saved $25M. Established a $75M international Pet food business in Mexico for HJ Heinz via a JV.  He also served as President of Star-Kist Seafood ($700M in sales) for nearly 10 years under HJ Heinz and Del Monte ownership. While with Star-Kist, Mr. Binotto invented, produced, introduced and sold the first Flavor Fresh Retail Tuna pouch that led SKF profitability turnaround and $120M in sales with 30%+ margins. Mr. Binotto also won the coveted SIAL award for product of the year and Carnegie Mellon case study the following year with the introduction of flavored, seasoned tuna varieties.  Later, he served as CEO of Contessa Premium Foods, teaming up with Sun Capital Partners to purchase Contessa .  While with Contessa, he introduced the first line of chef inspired frozen meals to the category.
